With our newly fabricated drivetrain and performance tuned engine assembled and mounted, the car is ready for action once again. We plan to test and race this weekend at the Nassau Coliseum SCCA Autocross event where our vehicle is sure to attract the attention of everyone there.

Over spring break, our Cooper Motorsports team went out to the Metropolitan Expeditionary Learning School (MELS) to help teach about and build fuel cell model cars. We would like to thank MELS for the great opportunity we had to pass on what we know about automotive engineering to our community's youth.

The vehicle has been stripped down to its frame in preperation of structural modifications and accomodations for the new drivetrain system. Meanwhile, the electronics and wiring harness are being rethought to make troubleshooting easier in the future.

We would like to thank Mary K. Lynch and Michelle Hyers (ME '06) for their generous monetary donations. Mary was our founding patron and is the reason we were even able to establish Cooper Motorsports nearly seven years ago. Michelle led the first Formula Team senior projects and design reviews in 2005 when the team was still in its infancy. Thanks for all the help!

With the SCCA season over and our members back from their winter break, now is the perfect opportunity for test data analysis and subsystem refinement. Over the next few months, the team plans to make major modifications to the drivetrain, brakes, frame, and perform additional engine tuning to take on any competitor this Spring. Come challenge and support us this coming SCCA season!

Completion of assembly and tuning of the Formula SAE vehicle are only a couple days away; just in time for SCCA's autocross event at Nassau Coliseum, Lot #8, this Saturday, October 15. Come see our formula vehicle in action and support our team!

With a completed suspension system, our car is officially on the ground and rolling. Our exhaust system has just been completed as well, and all team members are working hard to complete all subsystems in parallel to complete the car.

The Cooper Union is proud to be taking part in an outreach program from a joint initiative between the John Deere Corporation and SAE International called the A World in Motion Learn Twice program. Over the next three days, the Cooper Union Motorsports team and, the Cooper Union ME honor society, Pi Tau Sigma will be working with 120 students from the Metropolitan Expeditionary Learning School (MELS) in Forest Hills, Queens to introduce the middle school students to the important engineering concepts needed to find innovative solutions to the current energy crisis.

Fabrication of the 2011 car continues as rockers and suspension jigs have been machined, the carbon fiber intake plenum has been laid up, and, thanks to The Cooper Union Architecture School, rapid prototyped runner molds have been completed. Upright CNC machining has begun as well. Bent stainless steel exhaust header tubes were just received from Tube Bending Inc.. Thanks again to Tube Bending Inc. for their much appreciated donation. The steel spaceframe for the 2011 car is now almost fully tack welded. Our new dashboard and oil swirl pot have been fabricated as well. Check out the media page for pictures of the progress so far. Currently students are hard at work on the newly designed suspension system and carbon fiber parts, such as the bodywork and the intake.

Today the bottom plane of the frame was jigged and tack welded from the front bulkhead to the main roll hoop.
